From autumn 2020, we will be offering an International Year One (Business) at the University of Roehampton Pathway College.
What is an International Year One?
An International Year One is a Level 4 programme, equivalent to the 1st year of an undergraduate degree. Upon successful completion, you will enter the 2nd year of your chosen undergraduate degree.
Why study an International Year One?
The key difference between an International Year One and the 1st year of an undergraduate degree is the content and teaching delivery. It has been specifically designed with the international student in mind.
You will receive more tailored support than you would on a standard undergraduate degree and develop your language and academic skills, ready to enter the 2nd year of your chosen undergraduate degree.
Also, the teaching and support staff at the Pathway College have many years’ experience in helping international students integrate into UK life, both academically and socially.
What will I learn on the programme?
The course content is focussed on ensuring you are fully prepared to progress onto year 2. As such, the modules you study are mapped towards those at Roehampton Business School. So you will gain the required subject knowledge.
As well as this subject-specific knowledge, the International Year One builds your English language and academic skills. You will become more confident in your language abilities and develop the academic skills necessary to succeed at undergraduate level.
Perhaps most importantly, you will become more settled at the university socially, not just academically.
The course is taught on campus and all students are fully integrated into campus life. You will have access to all the events and trips organised by the Business School, and of course all of the societies and social events with the wider university community.
What can I go on to study?
You can study any undergraduate degree in Roehampton’s Business School. There are degrees in accounting and business with specialisms in human resource management, finance and marketing. Many of these offer industry accreditations to further boost your employability.
Once you successfully pass the programme, you will directly enter into year 2 of your undergraduate programme.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need Good High School Grades, or IGCSE at 5 Grades B or above, or equivalent.
For English proficiency, you will also need IELTS 5.5 with no band below 5.5.
The International Year One (Business) is the perfect preparation for international students. It offers longer contact hours than a standard undergraduate 1st year to allow for the necessary combination of language, social and academic study skills with subject-specific knowledge for success at undergraduate level.
