With a new term starting, we gathered a list of some interesting recent news and highlights at Roehampton, giving you lots of things to look forward to.
New library
We invested £35 million in a new library based at the heart of our campus. Overlooking the Digby Stuart College campus, the five-storey library will house 1,200 brand new study spaces and ‘thousands of books’. One of the best things about the new library is that it’s open until 9pm during term time and 24 hours a day during peak academic times of the year.
Solar panels
The University of Roehampton has always been forward-thinking and this way of thinking even extends to our library’s roof! If you find yourself near Digby Stuart College campus library, then point your eyes upwards and spot our new solar panels.
Growhampton
Since being established in 2013, our sustainability initiative has kept on growing. With support from student volunteers, we have continued to promote biodiversity and develop an edible campus. All the vegetables harvested and sold on site are grown organically. Make sure you pop down to weekly Market Day at Digby Square to try some hand-picked vegetables.
Roehampton Poetry Centre
The Roehampton Poetry Centre announces the launch of The Robert Graves Prize, a new poetry competition in partnership with Wimbledon BookFest. The competition will be judged by Fiona Sampson, Professor of Poetry at University of Roehampton and literary agent Peter Straus. And the prize? £1,000! So get creative and get writing.
The Hive Café
Our ethical café is the latest sustainability project from Roehampton Students’ Union. Often using and selling produce from our edible campus. It’s a great place to grab a coffee and cake with friends between lectures, or drop in for one of the tasty meals on offer on the delicious menu, the stew is delicious! Go here to find out more.
The University of Roehampton is always looking at ways it can support and encourage students to achieve to the best of their ability. We’re looking forward to welcoming new students joining us.
