Acclimatising to the new normal may seem daunting and or exciting, we share some tips on how to adapt to the new way of life and studying and ways to keep staying safe. 

Throughout the duration of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, we have seen continuous changes to the levels of restrictions and national lockdowns. Almost overnight, students showed great adaptation to switch to a new way of learning online and many may not have yet had the chance to meet on-campus and experience the traditional student lifestyle. 

It is understandable that some students may be anxious about the re-entry to a new normal way of life on campus. As restrictions have eased in London, we have compiled some ideas on how to adapt and make the most of your time at University of Roehampton. 

Our top 5 tips on adjusting to the new normal 

1. University events and societies 

You’re probably keen to dive into the campus experience. Roehampton Students’ Union host lots of events and have over 50 societies covering a wide range of student interests, including: gaming, photography, yoga and much more. These are a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, making it easier to build connections and expand your social circle. 

2. Plan your days out 

London is getting back to its usual atmospheric state, but many things have changed in the past year, and it’s important to research what venues are open and the best transport routes to take. We recommend you plan and be sure to book before you head out to avoid disappointment. One of the wonderful things about London is that there are always many new restaurants and entertainment venues that have popped up over the last year and you will be sure to find something new and exciting to do in London. 

3. Try to socialise outdoors 

Restrictions have been lifted right in the middle of the British summer, which gives you the opportunity to (weather permitting) enjoy the sunshine with your friends. Whether for a picnic, outside restaurant dining, or exploring the beautiful parks and scenery across London – meeting friends outside in the sunshine is a great way to spark your social life into action and continue to help stop the spread of Covid-19. 

4. Don’t forget about your studies 

We bet that you can’t wait to visit those museums, restaurants and boroughs you’ve not yet had a chance to do but remember you don’t want to do it at the expense of your studies. Try to create a balanced routine that allows you to both ace your studies and enjoy your social life. Our student support teams will be more than happy to offer guidance if you need it. 

5. Stick to what you feel comfortable doing 

With restrictions lifted some students may be feeling nervous about returning to the new normal. It is an entirely personal preference as to what you do, and you should only do what you feel comfortable doing. If you’re not quite ready to populate your social calendar – that’s okay. There is no rush.
